| Please note that poems and song lyrics are two entirely different things. If you plan to submit a poem to be set to music (this especially applies to a GREAT poem), chances are it will not work well as a lyric without a few slight changes. Whereas a poem is designed to be savored with plenty of time for the reader to absorb the feeling and meaning, a successful song lyric must get the message across in 4 minutes or less. In a song, it's best to deliver the main idea completely within 30 seconds, rise to a climax at about 2 and a half minutes, then slowly and gently bring the listeners back to their comfort zone just before ending. Additionally, song lyrics greatly benefit from the repetition of similar vowel and consonant sounds, rhymes within rhymes and as much "ear candy" as possible. In a song lyric, it's much better to sing something that sounds good and pleases the ear, rather than always being languistically correct. " Ain't " has a very different feel than " isn't ", for instance. And the most common mistake that beginning lyricists make is using old, tired phrases instead of finding a new, original way to say the same thing. Though we are happy to compose your song with no changes, we do offer the service of refining your words. |
