The FONE TONE TEST AND ALIGNMENT TAPE facilitates precise adjustment of the tape heads
on your 8 track machine, much faster and more accurate than a standard music tape! Now, let
me tell you why my alignment tapes are the BEST you will find for 8 track adjustment -

All tapes are recorded DIRECTLY from a vintage Hewlett-Packard function generator, monitored
by a Fluke Frequency Counter and an HP 331A Distortion Analyzer. All frequencies are accurate
to 0.1%, making them handy for extremely accurate speed adjustment also. My tapes are NOT dubs
of old, noisy alignment tapes - they are the finest ORIGINAL tapes in the business, recorded on a
collection of perfect, factory-adjusted Akai machines such as the GXR-82D, CR-81D and CR-80D-SS.

Adjustment "by ear" is accomplished quickly and easily, BUT - the recorded signals are also of
sufficient quality to be monitored by an oscilloscope connected to the output. As a scope shows
up TEN TIMES as much error as the ear can hear, absolutely breathtaking results can be achieved.
In addition, Tracks 1,2 and 4 are recorded at exactly 0 VU to check for accurate output levels.

All FONE TONE alignment tapes use the copper-spring pad - not the narrow foam type that allows
the tape to misalign with the playback head. Manufactured using existing cartridges respooled with
NEW low noise, high-output tape and relabeled, my tapes are guaranteed to blow your ears away!

The 4 channel version contains exactly the same information as the
stereo version for the first five minutes, then the rest of the tape is
simply a 1kHz tone recorded at 0 VU on all 4 channels to check and
adjust your preamps and VU meters for optimum factory performance.

Please note that almost all 8 track machines have somewhat weak
output at the edges of the tape (Tracks 1 and 4) due to many factors,
including age, wear and poor initial design, While most reliable adjustment
should be performed on Tracks 2 and 3, adjusting for maximum output
on track 4 (right rear channel in this case) might produce better results
on some machines, especially high-end models. Experiment at will!

Over the decades, I have used (and still own) alignment tapes made by Pioneer, Akai,
Popular Science, Audiotex and General Electric among others. In most cases, I find
the signals too noisy, unstable and WAY off proper frequency. My tapes guarantee a
frequency error of LESS THAN 1%, and NO ERROR on the 440 Hz speed check tone!
