| This is one huge monster, measuring 24" across, 16" high and 8" deep. With a serial number of #244 and the fact that the only other one of these I have ever seen is in a Supreme product bulletin on Steve Johnson's super-cool Supreme Instruments website, I'm guessing that not many of these were manufactured. In fact, it's one of very few things that hasn't shown up on a Google search - and I'm about to change that! This strikingly clean example of a 655 contains some 40 tubes, with all except 5 or 6 being 6SN7GT's. Being such an apparently rare instrument from around 1952, I haven't been able to locate any information on its operation, or especially a schematic or even any specific ideas on how it was used. Since some video pattern generators were already on the market and had crosshatch and other patterns (as opposed to this 665 which only offers a dot pattern), it appears that this generator was geared more towards design and engineering. I'm by no means a video expert; thus I have no idea what some of the controls are designed to do. Below are some thumbnails which will enlarge when clicked on. If any old video gurus can decipher the controls on this thing and give me ANY information at all, I would be most grateful! My e-mail is BarryMusicTeach@aol.com Click here to E-mail me |
