BARRY'S 8 TRACK REPAIR
For sale:  The super high end JVC BR-S822U
Professional Broadcast VHS / SVHS Format VCR
For the vintage video enthusiast who demands the highest quality sound and
picture, combined with ultimate reliability.  These machines were designed for
continuous heavy daily use in the professional environment, along with ease of path,
and the swing-out front panel for accessing the less-used functions.

The BR-S822U has no rubber parts except for 2 small loading belts, which can be
replaced by simply removing the top cover - NOTHING needs to be taken apart.  Both
supply and takeup reels have their own individual motors, as well as the capstan and
video head drum.  This makes for a simpler, more reliable mechanical layout.  They
also have a rubber pinch roller of course - all machines for sale have NEW rubber.

A built-in video enhancement feature sharpens the picture in 3 adjustable steps, and
the video AGC (Automatic Gain Control) can be defeated which enables the VCR to
ignore most anti-copy signals (applies to recording on tape only).  I have copied
numerous DVD's and commercial VHS tapes with no trouble at all, and with no loss of
quality.
COMPONENT OUTPUTS AVAILABLE WITH OPTIONAL TIME BASE CORRECTOR.

Other features include separate recording level controls for normal and Hi-Fi audio,
and by using all 4 audio inputs, you can actually use this machine as a 4 track audio
recorder (2 normal and 2 Hi-Fi tracks).  All audio connections are XLR, and all video
connections are BNC (there is one RCA jack for easy audio monitoring).  In addition
to the XLR audio connectors on the rear panel, you also have standard 1/4 phone
jacks on the front for microphones, guitars, keyboards, etc.

You have full control of the picture also.  You can freeze one frame, and even scroll
through partial frames using the jog and shuttle knobs.  You can slowly or quickly go
forward or backward, frame by frame at the touch of a finger, and can always get a full
perfectly clean frame wherever you care to stop.  Perfect for capturing frames.

With the optional Time Base Corrector, you can also adjust all video parameters
such as Color Level, Tint, Black Level and Video Level (brightness) to compensate
for tapes that have drifted (green or purple faces) or were recorded with poor
lighting or white balance.  This eliminates the need for an external processor.
For the more advanced user, you can also fine tune the System Phase,
Subcarrier Phase, Video Phase and Y/C Timing with front panel screwdriver pots.
Some anti-copy signal work by changing the timing of these signals.

The menu functions and settings are almost endless:  You can set the machine to
stop at the end of a tape, or automatically rewind.  Once rewound, the tape can be
set to play again or stay stopped.  You can also set the machine to play one part of
the tape over and over, or to keep playing the same tape over and over.  In the
menus, you have more control over the functions than you will ever use.  If you
should get in "over your head" and mess something up, it's very easy to restore the
machine to "normal" operation.  You can play with this thing all day!

For the more astute user (such as a video editor or production staff), the 822 has a
full array of editing functions.  However, you would need the optional Time Code
board to utilize most of the editing features that require time code.  All machines
have been fully serviced including COMPLETE MECHANISM REMOVAL for cleaning
and lubrication, full electrical and mechanical alignment including tape loading
carriage, as well as complete extended testing of every available function.

Now, the drawbacks:  This machine will only play tapes recorded at the highest speed
(SP), as it is a professional duplicator optimized for commercial movies.  Also, it has
all professional style connectors and you will likely need many adaptors to convert to
standard RCA plugs and jacks for home use.  And finally, this machine is EXTREMELY
complicated if you wish to take advantage of its never-ending list of features.  If you
mainly just want to play and record movies, it's fairly easy to operate once you have
everything hooked up and working.  But you will likely want to experiment with this
machine and come up with creative uses, which pretty much means having the
instruction manual close by at all times.  I'm a professional electronics technician,
and I still need to refer to the manual fairly often.

I currently have 5 of these machines available, 3 of which have the Time Base
Corrector and 2 of which have the Time Code board installed.  Any machine can be
purchased without these options, or with one or both.  ALL machines have been
thoroughly serviced, including pulling the mechanism for full cleaning and
lubrication, and compete alignment of the electronics using JVC professional
alignment tapes, a Sencore VC-93 VCR Analyzer and all other needed test equipment.
These machines are FULLY GUARANTEED for one full year, just as if they were
purchased brand new.  If you check eBay, you will see many of these machines
selling for $300 or more - IN UNKNOWN WORKING CONDITION.

My VCR's (as well as everything else I offer for sale) are in perfect working condition
and fully guaranteed.  They will have minor nicks and scratches from years of
professional use, but all front panels are clean and quite presentable.  These
monsters weigh 51 pounds and measure 24" front to back, 17" wide and 8" high.
They won't sit very well on top of a TV and will likely require a separate table.

Shipping is NOT included in the price.  It will cost between $50 and $100 to ship to
most locations in the US, and in the hundreds to ship to another country.  It will be
packed the BARRY'S 8 TRACK REPAIR way, with full protection against damage.
NOTE:  These machines are NTSC, and WILL NOT work with the foreign PAL format.
Please make sure your country uses the NTSC standard before purchasing.
